The Celerio offers a 5-speed manual for enthusiasts and an "Auto Gear Shift" (AGS) or AMT for city dwellers. The AGS system uses an intelligent actuators to automate clutch operation and gear shifts, providing the convenience of an automatic without the significant fuel penalty of a traditional torque converter.

The vehicle employs a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) layout. By mounting the engine transversely and sending power to the front wheels, Maruti maximizes interior cabin space and reduces the mechanical complexity and weight associated with a driveshaft to the rear.
Clutch Type: Single Plate Dry Clutch
Both the manual and AGS variants utilize a diaphragm-spring, single-plate dry clutch. In the AGS model, the engagement is managed by an electro-hydraulic or electric actuator, which mimics a human driver’s clutch control to ensure smooth transitions between ratios.
